    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to a Type 1 diabetes early detection
    3         program; creating s. 381.992, F.S.; requiring the
    4         Department of Health, in collaboration with school
    5         districts throughout the state, to develop
    6         informational materials for the early detection of
    7         Type 1 diabetes for parents and guardians of certain
    8         students; providing requirements for such
    9         informational materials; providing an effective date.
   10          
   11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   12  
   13         Section 1. Section 381.992, Florida Statutes, is created to
   14  read:
   15         381.992 Type 1 diabetes early detection program.—
   16         (1) The Department of Health, in collaboration with school
   17  districts throughout the state, shall develop informational
   18  materials for the early detection of Type 1 diabetes for parents
   19  and guardians of students. The informational materials shall be
   20  made available to each school district, school board, and
   21  charter school through the department’s website.
   22         (2) Within 90 days after July 1, 2025, the department shall
   23  develop the materials related to the early detection of Type 1
   24  diabetes and post the information on its website. The department
   25  shall develop a standardized methodology for each school
   26  district, school board, and charter school for the notification
   27  of the parents or guardians of public school voluntary
   28  prekindergarten, kindergarten, and first-grade students, by
   29  September 30, 2025, and annually thereafter, of the availability
   30  of the Type 1 diabetes early detection materials.
   31         (3) Information provided to parents and guardians shall
   32  include, but not be limited to, all of the following:
   33         (a) A description of Type 1 diabetes.
   34         (b) A description of the risk factors and warning signs
   35  associated with Type 1 diabetes.
   36         (c) A description of the process for screening students for
   37  early detection of Type 1 diabetes using a blood autoantibody
   38  test.
   39         (d) A recommendation for further evaluation for students
   40  displaying warning signs associated with Type 1 diabetes or
   41  positive early detection screening results.
   42         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025.
