Senator Bean Presents $2 Million Check in State Funding to Ocean Highway & Port Authority
Jacksonville, Fla. – On behalf of the State of Florida, State Senator Aaron Bean (R-Fernandina Beach) yesterday presented a $2 million check to Nassau County Ocean Highway and Port Authority (OHPA) Chairman Adam Salzburg and OHPA commissioners. During the 2018 Legislative Session, Senator Bean and State Representative Cord Byrd (R-Neptune Beach) worked diligently together to secure the $2 million in state funding for the Port of Fernandina for a new multipurpose dock crane.
“The Port of Fernandina is a critical part of our local economy, but it lacks some of the infrastructure needed to compete with other ports around the state and country,” said Senator Bean. “These state funds will remedy this issue by allowing the Port of Fernandina to purchase a new dock crane, which will enhance the port’s performance and benefit all of Nassau County.”
“Along with Senator Bean, I am happy to secure funding for the Port of Fernandina for a new crane,” said Representative Byrd. “The port is critical to economic development and employment opportunities in Nassau County and Northeast Florida. This funding will improve port safety and maintain infrastructure to meet increasing customer demand.”
The Port of Fernandina’s new multipurpose dock crane will modernize the port’s infrastructure and allow it to move cargo more quickly and efficiently. These improved cargo loading and unloading times will increase vessel turn-around and allow the port to serve more ships. In turn, this will improve business for the Port of Fernandina and further increase its positive economic impact on Nassau County.
“On behalf of the Ocean Highway and Port Authority and Nassau County’s citizens, we truly appreciate Senator Bean and Representative Byrd putting in the time and effort to secure this appropriation,” said Chairman Salzburg. “This funding will allow the Port of Fernandina to acquire a new crane and become more efficient, meaning even more business for Nassau County.”
Senator Bean represents Senate District 4, which includes parts of Nassau and Duval Counties. He can be contacted in Tallahassee at (850) 487-5004 or in his District Office at (904) 757-5039.
