President Galvano Appoints Byron Shinn to the Florida Cybersecurity Task Force
President Bill Galvano (R-Bradenton) today announced the appointment of Byron Shinn of Bradenton to the Florida Cybersecurity Task Force.
“Byron is a very well-respected Certified Public Accountant with a solid background in cybersecurity issues, particularly those dealing with federal tax fraud. An accountant for nearly 40 years, he also has experience running a small business, which will be a valuable perspective for the Task Force,” said President Galvano.
Mr. Shinn is the partner-in-charge of the Bradenton office of the Carr, Riggs, and Ingram CPA firm. A CPA since 1981, Mr. Shinn was the managing partner of Shinn & Company, LLC, before merging with Carr, Riggs, and Ingram in 2018. He is Chairman of the University of South Florida, Sarasota Manatee Regional Campus, sits on the Boards of Trustees for the University of South Florida System, and was past Chairman of the Florida Board of Accountancy.
Created by House Bill 5301 (2019), the Florida Cybersecurity Task Force is tasked with reviewing and providing recommendations for the improvement of the state’s cybersecurity infrastructure, governance, and operations. The task force is required to submit a final report of its findings and recommendations to the Executive Office of the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives by November 1, 2020. Mr. Shinn’s term began on October 4, 2019, and expires January 1, 2021.
