Project Description:

Installation of gates, CCTV, Fiber optics network and central station of monitoring .This project request is for one-time funding for the construction of a port wide security improvement plan and additional fire protection equipment for the shipping industry. The project includes the construction of roadway access control gate complexes, electronically controlled dockside vehicle and pedestrian gates, closed circuit television cameras, a security operations center, an extensive LAN network throughout the port to support a fully integrated ID badging and access control system, and a fireboat equipped for shipboard fires. Port Everglades has been identified as the primary source of illegal narcotics into the State of Florida.By securing the Port=s entry points vis-a-vis restricting access to only those who have successfully completed criminal background investigations, we anticipate a significant reduction in smuggling activities and the potential for terrorist acts within the port.
