Project Description:

Construction of a museum, library and art gallery and preservation of the 1925 Freedom Tower. The mission of the Freedom Tower Foundation is predominately educational in nature. The restored Freedom Tower will house a museum dedicated to the history of Cuban-Americans, their determination to live in freedom and enjoy the rights of a democratic society and their struggle to restore democracy and freedom in Cuba. The museum will include storyline dioramas. A children's wing with learning opportunities presented in an inter-active and fun environment to involve both the children and their families as well. A library will be established for the study of Cuba and Cuban-Americans. An art gallery exhibiting the works of Cuban-Americans and an artist studio where visitors can actually see the artists at work will be incorporated into the design. An auditorium will be provided for lectures and conferences documenting the Cuban diaspora.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The museum has the potential to impact other immigrant minority groups facing the same disruptions of their lives and cultures - to document the struggle and to suggest possibilities for overcoming it. The restoration of the Freedom Tower along with the museum will attract many visitors from throughout and will be a major contributor to the re-development of Miami's central business district.
