This project supports a statewide need as reflected in the Governor's goals of reducing drug use in the state by 50% by the Year 2005.It is also consistent with the Governor's recommended increases in substance abuse prevention funding as noted in the E-Budget for Fiscal Year 2001-2002.This project is supported by the Florida Office of Drug Control's Strategic Plan and White Paper on Prevention as well as Statewide Prevention Plans of both the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Juvenile Justice.Specifically, the project will provide for the creationof regional prevention centers located throughout the state that will deliver training, technical assistance and information dissemination of science-based prevention practices.The networking structure is patterned after the Federally funded Centers for the Application of Prevention Technology (CAPT) and the Texas Regional Prevention Centers.

Provide a networked system of prevention centers located throughtout the state designed to provide training, technical assistance, and information dissemination about utilizing science-based approaches to prevention.The regional Prevention Centers (RCP's) will employ information-communication technology to keep the field apprised of all new funding opportunities, research and other news.Each PRC will be charged with maximizing regional prevention efforts by performing a coordinating role to increase the effectiveness and visibility of prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use and abuse within the region.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

95% of youths, adults and community-based organization will be satisfied with assistance provided by RPC's.100% of RPC's will provide community councils to attend the statewide prevention conference.
