The proposed building will suport a pilot project that tests a change in Florida's mandatory requirement for school attendance from age 16 to 18.� Neighboring districts have already visited our project.� While twelve states already have such a requirement, mandatory attendance to age 18 is foreign to the State's other counties.� If implemented in Florida, this change would help us to solve the State's workforce problems.

Project Description:

The MCSB proposes to centralize the district's alternative education programs through the construction and operation of a multi-story builidng with 105,636 square feet.� By so doing, the County will be able to intake, counsel, tutor, teach, and otherwise train its disengaged youth in a permanent site.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

(1) To construct 750 permanent single-site stations for County teens who have dropped out or who fit the County's dropout profile and (2) To assist more than two-thirds of these teens to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent.
