This project has statewide significance as LYNX is the only regional transportation authority in the state providng services to a multi-county area, namely Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Volusia Counties.AS a central repair facility, this project is consistent with the 2020 Florida Transportation Plan and its focus on mimizing the impacts of transportation facilities and services to the environment, while providing impetus for increasing transit ridership and expanding specialized transportation services to meet the needs of the transportation disadvantaged.This project is intermodal in nature because it supports the bus network, which serves to connect numerous mobility modes, such as rail, airports, pedestrian, and bicycle.

Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

LYNX New Operating Base.Provides facility for operations, maintenance and administrative functions to support capacity needs and service expansion.The New Operating Base will be the focal point for daily operations for 200 vehicles and will become the Central Repair Facility for the entire LYNX fleet, up to 600 vehicles.All heavy maintenance, vehicle repair, paint and body shop requirements will be accomplished at this facility.All operator training will be conducted at the site. All administration and personnel services for fleet operations and maintenance will hbe conducted at the site, and it will serve as the central supply and material support center for all of LYNX. The site will consolidate and support the operations of 200 buses includingmoney retrieval, fueling, washing and dispatch. It is located less than 10 minutes from the Downtown Orlando Intermodal Center and will be the principal operations and maintenance support center for the entire fleet.The project is ready to go and the site plan, roadway design and storm water system designs have been completed.The facility construction should begin by March 2003 and LYNX can complete this project by 2004.
