This program meets a current unmet need in the area of transitional living services for women and their children who are recoverinng from drug/alcohol abuse.This program addresses a statewide interest of decreasing substance abuse and dependence on welfare while increasing healthy families and productive tax paying citizens.Measurable results will be produced through outcome studies.Program information will be made available so that this model may be replicable.

Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mothers and Infants Program began in 1995, via a partial grant from the Dept. of Children & Families.This program was designed to provide adult pregnant women, who are addicted to drugs/alcohol, with a safe and supportive residential environment in which they can learn parenting, decision-making, and life management skills.With a minimum stay of six to nine months, program counseling focuses on drug and alcohol abuse, values clarification, health, wellness, and social skills.To date, 73 babies have been born substance free.One year after treatment approximately 70% of the mothers are still clean and sober, have lessened involement with the judicial system, and 90% are employed.

Output is to graduate 8-10 women every 12 months.
