The Airbus 380 will serve the aviation industry as the first of a next generation passenger and cargo aircraft. The A380 has a larger payload capacity and over 35% increase in passenger seats than the B747/400 (A380 can accommodate up to 555 passengers compared to 410 passengers on B747/400).

Orlando International Airport is among a select group of world airports in a position to accommodate the A380 with only a modest amount of airfield and terminal facility improvements. Virgin Atlantic Airways and Federal Express have already placed firm commitments to purchase the A380.Virgin Atlantic currently has 3-daily non-stop flights from the United Kingdom to OIA and a Federal Express sorting center is located at OIA.

Airports that are able to accommodate next generation aircraft will significantly enhance their region's economic position.Economic Analysis of this project by Hank Fishkind and Associates indicates a 37% increase of state sales taxes($6.6 million annual increase) and tourist development taxes ($1.7 million increase). Total direct and indirect economic impact is estimated at over $177.7 million per year and the creation of 2,370 new jobs.

The extended range capabilities of the A380, up to 8,000 nautical miles, will provide access to new passenger markets including the Far East.In addition, the A380's increased freight capabilities will allow more cities to enjoy direct passenger service and "next day" freight services. The efficiency of the A380 provides for maximum productivity and benefit with fewer operations and cost.
