Project Description:

SHARE is proposing to expand current services by operating a mobile "grocery store".This service would utilize food that is leftover from SHARE's monthly distribution including meats, dry goods, fruits and vegetables. The mobile unit will visit low-income housing projects and elderly living facilities (particularly where residents do not have transportation) monthly for residents to purchase food at a large savings.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

It is likely that the mobile program will reach more than 500 families.Through a national buying network and use of thousand of volunteers, SHARE will pass on a 50% or more food cost savings to these families. This savings will allow low-fixed income families the opportunity to save significantly on their food dollars and become more self-reliant.Long-term outcomces for this program could include decreased dependence on government food programs and other services. Also, access to low-cost food in these communities will curb documented hunger by providing low-cost, nutritious food at the end of the month, a time when families need to stretch their income.
