CBIRS Request 1287

Community Budget Issue Requests - Tracking Id #1287
Healthy Communities Initiative

Requester: Robert Johnston Organization: Coordinating Council of Broward

Project Title: Healthy Communities Initiative Date Submitted 1/15/2003 1:08:14 PM

Sponsors: Atwater

Statewide Interest:
The Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI) funds are carefully invested in products and programs whcih improve Broward County residents' quality of life AND are transferable as public domain to support pilot projects in other areas of Florida. The Broward Benchmarks, Community Resource Inventory, Broward Information Network, Neighborhood Projects and other CCB systems will work anywhere. In fact, we have already done some of this, as in our support of the successful development of the Dade Alliance over the last two years. Our member institution can provide many examples of positive results. These include new partnership grants in transportation, health and other areas, co-location and "One-Stop" client services, joint strategic planning, organizational development and others. New state legislative initiatives are being successfully implemented with cost savings, through CCB administrative support and co-location. These include the state mandated School Readiness Coalition, Governor's Front Porch Initiative and Community Alliance (foster care reform). In summary, this is clearly a project with statewide importance and impact.
