Counties: Broward

Gov't Entity:   Private Organization (Profit/Not for Profit): Yes

Project Description:
A rapid response system that assists police departments statewide in the search/early recovery of missing children, the elderly, the disabled, in addition to providing sexual predators notification at the request of law enforcement. For the various emergencies that arise involving children, A Child Is Missing (ACIM), can assist law enforcement in those searches and other responsibilities. The cost of providing this service is costly, but if that cost is spread out, it can be affordable and all law enforcement agencies can benefit. This is a Public/Private partnership with a not for profit organization. There is no total service like this in Florida at the present time. It is basically free to all law enforcement. This funding allocated this year allowed ACIM to provide service and training to areas that had not previously been reached. Personalized training would continue to the state. Private funding was also involved in providing the service. Additional funding is needed, but service is provided 24/7, 365.

Is this a water project as described in Chapter 2002-291, Laws of Florida? No

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
At present the program is available to every law enforcement agency in Florida. ACIM has been able to produce results and leads to finding people, saving law enforcement many hours and additional expenses. With the expanded service, law enforcement will have service provided when they need it-- just by calling. The sooner the person(s) wherabouts are found, the safer they are. The community benefits and it is a response program that people can hear working in their own homes.
