Project Description: |
An after school program for middle school age children involved in the juvenile justice system or at risk for juvenile deliquent behaviors. This program will provide an array of services including academic tutoring, behavior modification, effective parenting training, improved socialization skills, pre-vocational planning, mental health and/or substance abuse treatment, teenage pregnancy prevention, self-esteem programming, value clarification. The program will focus on early intervention and prevention. Its aim will be to divert youths from being committed as juvenile deliquents and moving through the cycle of first degree misdemeanors to felonies. Participants who sucessfully complete the program will be able to lead socially acceptable lives. In addition, government funds will not need to be directed on a long-term basis to these youths.
The Department of Juvenile Justice staff provided technical assistance in developing target population. |
