Project Description:
To provide college scholarships to economically disadvantaged, at-risk students. STARS (Scholarship Tuition for At-Risk Students) has a 96% success rate. The $10 million state funds will be matched with $10 million from 45 private organizations to purchase 3,500 scholarship. Students agree to stay drug and crime free to earn thier scholarship. More than 12,500 scholarship have been purchased through the Foundation with the help of state funds totalling more than $22 million and private matching dollars. Project STARS serves as a national model for reducing the dropout rate and for preparing students for college.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Providing approximately 3,500 scholarships a year to economically disadvantaged at-risk students will positively change the lives of these students. Targeted students have a 60% chance of dropping out of high school by the 10th grade before STARS enter their lives, yet the program recipients have a 96% college graduation rate.
