This project will provide environmental education, promote environmental awareness and improve public access to the waterfront/estuary. The project addresses policies in the State Comprehensive Plan: (9) Natural Systems and Recreation Lands, Policy 13. "Encourage the use of public and private financial and other resources for the development of recreational opportunities at the state and local levels," and (16) Urban and Downtown Revitalization, Policy 6. "Enhance the linkages between land use, water, use, and transportation planning in state, regional, and local plans for current and future designated urban areas".

Project Description:
The project is the design and construction of a pedestrian/bicycle bridge to link existing sections of the Riverwalk, a 2.5 mile waterfront corridor that includes a marina, a senior housing development, and public access points currently, and upon completion will connect state-owned Jupiter Ridge Natural Area, four (4) County parks, several preserve areas, residential neighborhoods and commercial areas from the Intracoastal Waterway to the Atlantic Ocean. The total project is estimated to generate $150 million in redevelopment of the area.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Tourism and public access to the waterfront will be improved. This lagoon bridge will connect the first two (2) new projects built, and allow the general public to view and experience the marine estuary. The lagoon bridge is within a known Manatee habitat that includes both Federal and State listed species. Water taxis and historical tours of the Loxahatchee River area would develop alternative modes of transportation.
