2001-2002 Fl. Legislature recognized that the closure of G. Pierce Wood State Hospital would displace children currently served in adult beds in the Manatee Glens' Crisis Stabilization Unit. The Legislature funded 2.43 Children's Baker Act beds plus 24 hour crisis emergency support for children and adolescents at Manatee Glens Crisis Unit.

Project Description:
The 2000-2001 Florida Legislature assured the continuation of Children's Baker Act services in Manatee county through this project. There is a dire need to continue these services to over 300 children and adolescents in Manatee, Sarasota and DeSoto counties who are suicidal and in need of inpatient psychiatric care. It is a growing need and not enough beds to accommodate the demand.
