The widening of State Road 68 will provide safer transportation. Heavy semi-turck use on this currently narrow highway has resulted in increased fatalities and accidents in recent months.

Project Description:
This project involves planning and permitting for the widening of State Road 68 to provide a two lane roadway with 4'wide paved shoulders and 8'wide stabilized shoulders. St. Lucie County has recently widened the road to 24'. However, the road has no shoulders.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Safer State highway and improved emergency evacuation route given all vehicles with mechanical failures will be able to utilize road shoulders and will not impede traffic.
