Project Description:
The State Comprehensive Plan Vision, Goals, and Recommendations relating to Outdoor recreation states, "Florida's ideal outdoor recreasion system will be a diverse, balanced system of outdoor recreation resources and suppliers that provide the citizens of the state recreation system will be a diverse, balanced system of outdoor recreation resources and suppliers that provide the citizens of the state and visitors - regardless of their location in the state, economic status, age, gender, ethnic background, or physical or mental disability - with a full range of outdoor recreational opportunities." The Francis Sports Complex - Phase II will expand the current facility to include active areas, such as the new soccer field and ADA accessible playground, but also passive areas, such as the picnic pavilion. The Complex will be accessible to all through current road widening and paving and also through proposed parking lot development and restroom expansion. The Francis Sports Complex - Phase II will increase recreational opportunities within the park, and will thus "Provide more opportunities for a wide range of resource-based outdoor recreation in both urban and rural areas, with a range of facility development from the primitive to the fully developed". Putnam County Parks & Recreation is striving to make the Francis Sports Complex a fully developed recreational area for the citizens of Putnam County, as well as visitor and tourists.
