Statewide Interest:
As Florida's largest open water estuary with a contributing watershed that includes more than two million inhabitants in several counties, Tampa Bay has been designated by the state as a cAtegory 1 Watershed Priority (most in need of restoration). Tampa Bay is also home to the nation's first desal plant producing 25 million gallons of drinking water a day. In addition, the bay is home to innumerable manatees, bottlenose dolphins, and various shorebirds, many of them endangered.

Project Description:
Funds for this project will be used for implementation of Best Management Practices for ongoing water quality improvements. These include stormwater retrofit and flood protection projects, habitat and wetland restoration, and exotic plant removal in McKay Bay/Palm River, Cockroach Bay, Clam Bayou, Terra Ceia, McIntosh Park, Reed Property, and the Kapok Wetland.
