| This project will provide support for the implementation of a municipal wastewater treatment system. The reduction in cesspits and increase in households connected to an approved and functioning wastewater treatment system is intended to reduce sewage pollution and produce measurable results in improving nearshore water quality in Florida Keys. Recent work has determined that wastewater form poorly functional onsite wastewater treatment systems rapidly enters surface waters of canals. (Paul et al..., 1995, 1997) and may be a human health risk due to viral contaminatino (Rose et al.., in press). |
