| Project Description: |
| The upper basin of the Kissimmee River Watershed contains the headwaters of the Everglades. The Kissimmee Upper Basin Restoration Intiative - Orange County is an integrated project with multiple objectives. It will improve groundwater and surface water quality, protect the ecosystem of lakes and enhance stormwater management in this basin. It will improve the quality of water leaving the basin and flowing into the newly restored Kissimmee River and ultimately into the Everglades. |

| The initiative focuses on older urban stormwater management systems that were designed with little or no stormwater treatment. The implementation of the initiative will cause a substantial reduction in pollutant loading, although the modeling necessary to quantify this reduction has not been performed. |
