Statewide Interest: |
The Airport has developed into the 3rd busiest international arrivals airport in the State (#14 in the U.S.), as well as one of its fastest-growing in the domestic market, largely as a result of the State's previous investment in Airport infrastructure. Continued State investment and development is essential in order to permit the Airport to meet the increasing air travel needs of Central Florida residents, businesses, and visitors. Recent studies conducted by the Florida Department of Transportation indicate that the Airport contributes more than $1.8 billion of annual impact to the region's economy, with more than 26,764 jobs dependent upon the Airport. |

Project Description: |
Provides for the design and construction of the first phase of a multi-level parking garage to provide approximately 600 spaces for passenger parking. Due to the dramatic growth of the domestic airline market at the Airport in the past few years, customer demand has far exceeded the supply of public parking spaces, and many patrons are forced to park in the unpaved fields far from the Terminals. |
|
Is this a water project as described in Chapter 2002-291, Laws of Florida? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
With the inclusion of State funds, along with Airport Authority and private investment funds, parking facilities can be constructed sooner than if the Authority must wait for its financial condition to permit sole use of its funds for the project. As a result, more airline passengers and visitors to Florida can be accommodated quicker, with the resultant economic boost for the region. |
