| Project Description: |
| HIPPY is requesting $150,000 for Desoto County and $100,000 for Sarasota County - funding to come through the respective School Readiness Councils.
HIPPY is a school readiness literacy program for children ages 3-5. Increases awareness by parents of their own potential to be their child's first teacher, concentrating on families at or below poverty level operating within subsidized housing communities in Sarasota and Desoto Counties.
The program has demonstrated success through 10 years of tracking students graduating from the program and has had a great impact on keeping children out of the dependency and delinquency systems, creating stable school attendance and keeping children at grade level. This program has a waiting list of children at each site.
