Project Description: |
The Alzheimers' Association has identified an emerging public health crisis among African-American and Hispanic Americans - The Silent Epidemic of Alzheimers' Disease. Alzheimers' Disease is more prevalent among African-Americans than among Whites, with estimates ranging from 14% to almost 100% higher. Hispanics are twice as likely as Non-Hispanic Whites to develop Alzheimer's Disease. Based on the unmet needs of the underserved multi-cutural population affected by Alzheimers' Disease or memory related disorders, we are proposing a statewide initiative that will provide care consultation, 24-hour, 7-days a week contact center with 150 languages and social worker level staff to underserved populations, focusing on the African-Americans, Hispanics, and Haitian communities, as well as others. The Chapters of the Alzheimers' Association include Southeast Florida Chapter, Gulf Coast Chapter, and Central and North Florida Chapters. This is a request to expand a successful pilot project statewide.
As this increased funding will most likely not be in any agency's request, questions 14 and 17 have been answered NO. Question 18 is answered UNKNOWN as there have been discussions with the Governor's office. |
