Statewide Interest: |
As the 5th largest origination and destination airport in the United States, Orlando International Airport is responsible for the safety and security of over 27 million passengers per year.
The tourism industry remains one of the largest economic contributors to the State of Florida. Although aviation travel declined initially following the events of 2001, to date almost 50% of all visitors to Florida still travel by air. To maintain Florida's position as a leading tourism destination, it is important for key ports of entry such as MCO to perform required security operations in a customer friendly and efficient manner that does not further burden a recovering aviation industry.

No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
As the largest domestic airport and second overall largest airport in Florida, OIA generates a significant portion of the total $89.5 billion annual aviation-related economic benefits reported by the Florida Department of Transportation.
The top two economic drivers of Florida's economy are international trade and tourism/travel. To maintain Florida's position as a leading tourism destination, it is important for key ports of entry such as MCO to perform required security operations in a customer friendly and efficient manner that does not further burden a recovering aviation industry.
