Project Description: |
The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center (The Center) request $1 million from the State of Florida to assist with the construction of the new Dr. Pallavi Patel Performing Arts Education Center. The 45,000 square-foot addition, the first major expansion in The Center's 17 year history, will provide a permanent home for burgeoning arts education programs and alleviate cramped/overused patron, staff and performance spaces. The Center's education programs currently serve over 100,000 people annually.
As The Center establishes the new Education Center, its focus on arts education and outreach could not be greater. These programs expand and enrich school curricula, enhance constituency building, and foster audience development. They also add to Tampa Bay's cultural growth through artistic training and support, and they build on the community infrastructure by creating dynamic collaborations, networking, community and business partnerships and access opportunities.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
The Center's education programs have been limited to whatever space made available. The Education Center will provide dedicated, state-of-the-art space for these and future programs. It will also provide for immediate program expansions and growth enrollment. New programs in the first two years will include pre-professional studies for the Tampa Bay Youth Orchestras, theatre arts students, and classical ballet students. There will also be advance training for artist as educators. New advanced and pre-professional offerings will include music, theatre and ballet internships, opera camp, sound and lighting workshops, and distance learning in technical theatre. All intermediate and beginning programs will be expanded. New, intermediate and beginner programs will be developed in orchestra, opera, jazz, voice, theatre, sound and lighting, and ethnic dance. The Wee Folk performance series will be expanded and the Center will begin organizing national and statewide conferences for youth orchestra students, storytellers, and African-American theatre artist and administrators. |
