Project Description: |
This project is a capital outlay request for the development of a 6.45 acre neighborhood park in a substantially underserved urban area. This parcel will be acquired through the Broward County Bond Challenge Grant program at a cost of $783,700. Additionally, Broward County will provide approximately $60,000 toward the cost of preserving environmentally sensitive areas of the parcel. This request will provide funds to complete the development of amenities including two multi-purpose fields, a pavilion, a tot lot and a service building.
The Broward County Comprehensive Land Use Plan establishes a minimum of three acres of park and/or open space per one thousand residents to meet quality of life concerns. The City of Lauderdale Lakes, which has adopted this standard, needs a minimum of ninety-five acres. Even after acquisition of this 6.45 acre parcel, the City is deficient by more than 64 acres or sixty-seven per cent. This project supports the goals of the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP), which includes, "provide more opportunities for a wide range of resource-based outdoor recreation in both urban and rural areas, with a range of facility development from the primitive to the fully developed".
