Statewide Interest:
The Florida-Israel Institute (FII) is a unique public organization, administered jointly by Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Broward Community College (BCC). Its sole purpose is to promote direct Florida-Israel mandated academic, commerce, education and culture connection. FII promotes cooperative research and education through sponsorship of student and faculty exchange, and development of bilateral trade through organizing symposia and business forums in both states and in cooperation with Enterprise Florida.

Project Description:
The Floirda-Israel Institute shall coordinate programs that enhance the Florida economy and security of both states, stemming from collaborative effort aimed at Israel's world class academic institutes, their outstanding faculty and the highly innovative Israeli hi-tech industry, agriculture, water management, defense, transportation and other key economic sectors: A) The Florida Israel Risk Assesment, Infrastructure Safety and Preparedness Program shall study and assess potential infrastructure safety risks and develop response protocols to effectively cope and mitigate specific nature and man-made disasters, in collaboration with the ICLAD and CITSS centers. B)The Florida-Israel Commerce Connection Program shall coordinate steps with the Israel Consulate Economic/Commerce division, Enterprise Florida and the Israel Venture Capital Association to organize conferences to promote joint business ventures. C) The Florida-Israel Visiting Scholars Program shall sponsor scholars exchange for extended sabbatical periods ranging from a month to a year, to promote joint research in specific academic fields deemed vital to the economy of both states (such as Robotics and Automation in Biotechnology, Beach Erosion, Water Resource Management, Urban Planning and Development, and Healthcare Technology), not excluding other critical Arts and Humanities areas of research. D) The Florida-Israel Innovative Science, Math and Engineering Education Program shall bring together educators and organize education seminars in Florida and Israel in areas of special importance, such as elementary school math education and innovative technology solutions to science learning facilitation.
