Project Description: |
Funds are requested to improve support of the operation of the UF College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital (VMTH). The College of Veterinary Medicine is the only veterinary medical college in Florida and serves as a major referral center for the entire Southeast. This college graduates 80 veterinarians every year. The Hospital is a teaching laboratory for clinical training for DVM students and residents, which is essential and critical to the college's training programs. Increasing costs over the last five years associated with teaching veterinary students and training house officers in the facility justify this support The primary mission of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is: to provide a clinical teaching forum for the clinical phase of the veterinary curriculum; to function as a secondary referral center for the treatment of pets, livestock, exotic and wildlife animals for the State of Florida as well as the southeastern United States; to provide consultation to practicing veterinarians, individual animal owners, and producers groups; to provide routine health care and wellness to animals that form an important phase of the preparation of the veterinary students for practice; to provide a training environment for residents and interns; and to support the overall teaching research and service programs of the College. |
