Statewide Interest:
The State of Florida has a strong commitment to the proficiency of all Florida children in reading and mathematics, as well as seeing as many high school students as possible be able to enter some form of advanced training or education. This funding request addresses both of these state commitments. AMICC has been in existence for 75 years.

Project Description:
The AMICC is applying for funding for a new project. Educational Advancement AMICC. Through this project we will hire professional reading coaches who will help the elementary school youth in our programs advance in balanced reading skills through instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension and assist the older youth through tutoring and homework help in their regular school subjects with an accent on reading and math. We will use internet-delivered technology (Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math) to deliver the program and monitor progress. Volunteers will be used extensively in the program after intensive training.
