Project Description:
This request is for continuation funding for this nationally recognized project established in Miami-Dade in 2000 that is currently funded in proviso (line item 2118 for $666,000). The NCEP program increases the amount of court ordered child support collected; assists non-custodial parents who have children on welfare to establish a pattern of regular child support payments by obtaining and maintaining unsubsidized employment; and strengthens families by motivating absent parents to accept their parental responsibilites and helps them improve their relationship with their children. Based on outcomes, the program was expanded to Miami-Dade County in 2000 at the invitation of the local courts and the State Attorney's office, and funded by the local workforce board with Federal welfare-to-work dollars, which ended nationally in early 2004. The Miami-Dade County NCEP program has assisted more than 1,500 dads, benefitting 3,200 children since mid-2000. Since 1996, statewide the program has successfully served over 8,000 non-custodial parents benefitting 19,000 children, and helped lessen their dependence on public assistance.
