Gov't Entity: Yes Private Organization (Profit/Not for Profit):

Project Description:
This 40-acre site includes no fixed buildings and has been utilized since 1995 as an outdoor firing range for law enforcement personnel from city, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Initially, a concrete block or "hardened" structure is needed to house a classroom(s), storage area, office and restrooms for our more than 150 sworn personnel, who serve a City population of some 95,000, and multiple user agencies in this county of some one-half million people. Eventually, site improvements would also include enhancement of pistol and rifle ranges, a shoot house and Hogan's city range

Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? No

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
There are less than five government operated firearms ranges in Brevard County and none, other than the Kennedy Space Center complex, that provide the opportunity to shoot "long guns." As a result, multiple agencies - including the State Department, representatives of Patrick Air Force Base and the ROTC program at the Florida Institute of Technology - have turned to this facility over past years to train personnel. These improvements would provide a central location and good use of already owned public property to conduct essential training for law enforcement and military personnel. This project enables participating personnel to hone training skills in a high liability arena, thus providing greater Homeland Security in a county which also hosts one of the world's busiest passenger cruise line ports - Port Canaveral
