Statewide Interest:
Spanish Creek discharges directly into the West Caloosahatchee River, which is identified as an impaired water body pursuant to the Department of Environmental Protection's Rules and is designated as a priority waterbody of regional or statewide significance pursuant to Surface Water Improvement and Management Act (SWIM) Act, F.S. 373.453. This project will be of immediate benefit to the Caloosahatchee River in that it will have a positive impact on water quality, hydrology, and habitat restoration in the Caloosahatchee River and estuaries. Additionally, there may be some additional benefit to the Lower Charlotte Harbor, which has been designated as a priority waterbody of regional or statewide significance pursuant to the Surface Water Improvement and Management ("SWIM") Act, F.S. section 373.453.

Reconstruction of headwaters of Spanish Creek and restoration of downstream floodplain and the channel. This project is a component of a regional project being designed by the SFWMD.
