Statewide Interest: |
This project will provide home improvements and other energy reduction saving measures for homes of very low and low-income households in predominantly low-income neighborhoods of Orlando. These neighborhoods consist of more than 800 owner -occupied homes, of which are headed by elderly, disabled, single parents and others that are in desperate need of securing their homes against the wind, rain, and other elements associated with hurricanes. In 2005, the City of Orlando completed a Housing Conditions Study where 41.3% of the low- income respondents indicated that the hurricanes of 2004 caused "major" damage to their homes. Although some of the impacts have been repaired, most of these homes still do not meet the hurricane standards that were adopted as a part of the state's new building code that went into effect in 2002. This project will address improvements to 50 homes at an average cost of $15,000. |
