Project Description:
The City of Plant City experiences chronic flooding along the Eastside Canal. The Eastside Canal watershed area comprises approximately 6,302 acres or roughly 9.8 square miles, of eastern Hillsborough County and the eastern portion of Plant City. In addition to drainage problems, water quality is also an issue of the Eastside Canal discharge. The City retained Professional Engineering Consultants, Inc., to complete an assessment of the water quality and quantity resulting in an "Engineering Report and Drainage Calculations for Eastside Canal Stormwater Management Master Plan for Plant City, Florida" prepared in October 2001. The City implemented some of the capital improvement projects recommended in the report with local funds. The remaining stormwater management capital improvement projects are unfunded. Completion of all the recommended improvements will provide flood relief to various residential neighborhoods and improve the water quality of the discharge in the Eastside Canal.
