Statewide Interest: |
The Clubhouse program is an extension of the psycho-educational, work ordered approach that Fellowship House presently employs to help severely and persistently mentally ill adults in Miami-Dade County work towards their rehabilitation goals and successfully re-integrate into the local community. The need for additional mental health programs in the state of Florida is well documented and correlates to the statewide interest of meeting community demands. The implementation of a Clubhouse in southwest Miami-Dade will produce a positive measurable outcome for the mental health community. The only other operational Clubhouse in Miami is located in the northwest, limiting access for much of the southern city population. |

Project Description: |
) A Clubhouse is a type of program serving the mentally ill that emphasizes strength based approaches to recovery and creates an atmosphere where staff and clients work collaboratively in all aspects of program operation. Each day in the Clubhouse will follow a working order. The work ordered day will allow for the completion of all Clubhouse activities in an organized, yet supportive matter, including data collection, mail delivery and food preparation. The Clubhouse functions as a self-contained program where the members aim to develop their vocational skills, work towards employment and re-integrate more fully into their community. First and foremost, the Clubhouse will serve as a community for the individuals seeking its services. The proposed program will be implemented and operated as defined by the International Center for Clubhouse Development (ICCD), which regulates the administration of Clubhouses internationally. The standards for Clubhouse program operation, as developed by the International Center for Clubhouse Development, can be viewed at http://www.iccd.org/ClubhouseStandards.asp. Fellowship House currently utilizes a hybrid of best practice models in order to provide the highest quality services possible, including supported employment, psycho-education and supportive housing. By integrating our already successful treatment approaches with a standardized Clubhouse, we can continue to provide the caliber of services that have made Fellowship House a nationally recognized psychosocial rehabilitation program. Fellowship House is requesting financial support in the amount of $500,000 to fully implement this new program once the facility is completed, including the hiring of qualified staff; ongoing training as mandated by ICCD standards; participation in the quarterly state Clubhouse initiative, the Florida Clubhouse Coalition; maintenance costs; food expenses and general operating expenditures. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Fellowship House's accredited and noted programs validate the agency's longevity and capacity to demonstrate success in new ventures, making Clubhouse development a logical progression for program expansion. Outcome measures for current programs regarding effectiveness include decreased psychiatric hospitalization, improved functional capacity, increased employability and community integration. The Clubhouse program aims to serve 100-120 individuals within its first year, with forty to fifty clients accessing services on a daily basis. Additionally, the Clubhouse program aims to maintain a hospital recidivism rate of less than 3%, an 80% improvement in functionality, and 90% consumer satisfaction and improvement in quality of life. |
