| Project Description: |
| The Therapeutic Family Program (TFP) meets a major need of the mentally ill in that it is affordable housing that also works closely with the treatment providers to ensure continuity and stability. The model provides a homelike setting for up to 3 mentally ill people. Treatment staff\programs provide wrap around services 24\7. Research has shown that it is highly effective model for individuals leaving institutional settings such as state hospitals, foster care and correctional facilities. The target groups for this program will be people leaving Northeast Florida State Hospital, DCF\D4 foster care system and diversions \ discharges from FS 916 (forensic mental health). Due to the fact that the Jacksonville area is the lowest funded area in the state for adult mental health services, these groups currently face long waits for services and placement. It is anticipated that this model will greatly reduce the use\need for deep end services such as the Baker Act and Duval County Jail. A $500,000 appropriation translates in to approximately 600 people (SSI\OSS eligible and non eligible) being servced on an annual basis ($1200 per person). |
