Statewide Interest: |
There is no Professional School of Architecture within 145 miles of Melbourne Florida. A new School of Architecture in East Central Florida will serve a Demographic area of over 3.5 million people.
Professional Architecture programs are limited access programs with demand far exceeding the State's capacity. Due to studio space requirements, high faculty to student ratios and high accreditation standards, these programs are very expensive to create and operate. This grant to FIT offers the most cost effective way to offer more Architectural educational opportunities for Floridians.
Increasing access to a new Architectural program here in Florida will provide more opportunity for Florida Students, help meet the demand of our growing State and produce economic activity by using more Florida Educated Architects. Existing firms will have greater access to Florida Architectural internships that are presently being filled my many out of State Architectural students.

Project Description: |
A new school of Architecture to provide a Masters in Architecture. The Masters in Architecture program will be available for students with a Pre-professional Architectural degree requiring 2 years of additional study to obtain a master degree, and for students with a BS or BA degree requiring 3 years of additional study to obtain a Master Degree. The program will focus on sectors that other architecture programs are not reaching, the "post-professional", or individuals who are moving to the architectural field from other professions. The program will have a special emphasis on spatial modeling for community design and planning. |
