Project Description:
In 2004, the Town of Inglis completed a Watershed Management Plan utilizing local funds and Cooperative Funding from the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The Town is prepared to begin implementation of the Best Management Practices outlined in the plan, specifically Alternative 3/4/5D. This project will reduce runoff pollution, capture, store, and treat runoff and prevent flooding in a subdivision of the Town known as Cason Acres. This area has experienced repeated flooding for several decades and has seen the most significant and repetitive flood damage during flood events in the area. Engineering and design of the stormwater facility are currently being undertaken utilizing local funds in conjunction with funding from the Water Management District. The completed project will provide for a retention area for stormwater treatment and nutrient fallout prior to discharge into the Withlacoochee River. The Town will be seeking additional construction funding from the Water Management District, will be applying for a FFY 2006 Community Development Block Grant from the Florida Department of Community Affairs in the amount of $650,000, and will seek additional funding from USDA, Rural Development as needed. Even with these sources, the current construction estimates exceed what is available through these programs. Without additional State funding, these programs will not be sufficient and supplemental grant requests will not be met.
