This project is located in a Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern, as designated by the Governor, pursant to Chapter 288.0656. The project will project health and life safety protection of not only those living in the Okeechobee area, but also for the many winter visitors and special protection for the main cross-state evacuation routes. The project will also provide for an adequate supply for the proposed SFWMD STA.

Project Description:
Construct new stormwater conveyance and pumping system in the south sector of the County and City areas to drawdown stormwater into a planned stormwater treatment area South Florida Water Management District will construct. Add appropriate conveyance structures and pump station(s).

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Prevention of blockage from flooding to major cross-state evacuation routes. Stormwater protection to residents and visitors in the Okeechobee area. Additional water supply for SFWMD STA. Reduction of nutrients when supply is conveyed to SFWMD STA. Quantified date not yet available from SFWMD.
