| Project Description: |
| This state-wide demostration project to construct a new fire station can revolutionize public safety care and public/private partnerships. The new station will improve response times, medical service delivery, and increased community outreach through urgent care centers. Port Orange's current population is 55,000 and over 29 square miles. As the community continues to grow, this facility is needed to provide life safety services. Furthermore with the inclusion of the Halifax Urgent Care component, Port Orange will expand services to improve lives in greater ways by offering a neighborhood medical clinic that is accessible, comfortable, friendly and vital to the neighborhoods.
The new station will provide a space to community based organizations and healthy community projects. In addition to community rooms for Homeowner Associations and the like, the station will be equipped with rehab or wellness rooms. By linking residents (especially youth and seniors) to programs, services, volunteers' opportunities, community activities and events, these centers will support long-term community health to the quality of life in the Port Orange area. This public/private partnership will be successful for both entities by the sharing of resources. Firefighter paramedics that work in the fire stations can also staff the urgent care centers. This cutting-edge endeavor will prove to be cost-effective, indispensable, and a model for other communities to follow.
