Project Description: |
The Center, for which SCC recently broke ground, is a cooperative undertaking with our local and regional business partners and the University of Central Florida. The facility will house SCC's Corporate College, small business services, and training programs in high-skill, high-demand, high-wage areas such as construction management and related fields, and digital media and related technology areas. This building will also be home to the Seminole County Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Florida High Technology Corridor Council, the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission and the Seminole County Department of Economic Development.
When this project was originally planned in 2000-2001, total costs were estimated at $14,658,178. SCC received $15,240,678 in PECO funding over the following four fiscal years. However, because state funding was allocated over a period of years, and because the several hurricanes of the last two years have driven up the price of steel, concrete and labor up sharply, costs of the project have escalated due to these inflationary pressures. We now estimate the total cost of the project at $18,500,000, leaving a funding shortfall of $3,259,322. |
