Broward Aging Resource Center Generator Funding

Requester: Edith Lederberg, Executive Director Organization: Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County, Inc.

Project Title: Broward Aging Resource Center Generator Funding Date Submitted 1/2/2008 9:11:58 PM

Sponsors: Ring

Statewide Interest:
The generator, for which funding is being requested, will be used to power the Aging Resource Center of Broward (ARC) in the event of electrical power loss, such as may occur following a hurricane or other disaster. Because the ARC of Broward is uniquely situated between the ARCs serving; Miami-Dade/Monroe counties; Palm Beach/Treasure Coast; and Southwest Florida/Naples/Fort Myers, and is housed in a recently constructed, hurricane hardened facility, it could also serve as temporary headquarters for those other ARCs should they also be affected by the same disaster.

Project Description:
The Aging Resource Centers serve as "one stop shops" to provide information, referral and other assistance via telephone calls, computers, printed materials, visitations, and collaboration to elders, caregivers, and other persons, regarding income. These functions, while always necessary and critical, become even more so following a disaster. The Aging Resource Center is dependent on electrical power for the operation of our telephone and computer equipment.
