Statewide Interest: |
This road is a designated hurricane evacuation route serving the populations of North Port, south Sarasota County, and the Port Charlotte, Murdock and Cape Haze areas of Charlotte County. These areas are approximately 30% - 40% developed and the widening of this roadway segment, which is just south of its interchange with Interstate 75, will significantly improve evacuation from these coastal areas to Interstate 75 as well as traffic circulation and movement of goods . This road segment also serves as the link to Interstate 75 for a Charlotte County planned mixed use development Murdock Village, encompassing a land area of approximately 1,100 acres. |

Project Description: |
This two-lane arterial from Hillsborough Boulevard to I-75 serves as a hurricane evacuation route and enhances access to the Citys five hurricane shelters. The project will widen the existing two-lane roadway to four lanes. The project is programmed to begin construction late 2007 / early 2008. |
|
Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Improved access and hurricane evacuation to I-75 for southwestern Sarasota County and northwestern Charlotte County, which are populated at approximately 30% - 40% of permitted densities. The current level of service for this two lane arterial road (between I-75 and US41) is extremely close to failing the adopted service level in the City of North and has failed for the section in Charlotte County. Widening this segment of Toledo Blade Boulevard to four lanes will restore traffic volume to the adopted service level for the City of North Port. |
