Project Description: |
The development and implementation of a community -based family neighborhood service center, which will promote the well being of children and families to increase parent's confidence and competence in their parenting abilities, focus on health prevention, substance abuse and child abuse prevention. The target population will be children in at risk families, and/or children who have been neglected or abused. Low-income families - children and their parent's lack access to health prevention and early intervention services within close proximity of their residences. Therefore, there is over utilization of hospital emergency services and advanced health conditions before treatment is sought. Thus, high incidences of teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, diabetes, hypertension, etc. occur within the community. They also lack access to resources to strengthen parenting skills. There continues to be under enrollment in the State of Florida Kidcare Program. Children services providers and DCF have identified a need for 20 Child and Family Empowerment neighborhood centers in Miami-Dade County. There are currently 8. The center will intervene with families referred by DCF-Family Safety Program and the Alcohol, Drug Abuse & Mental Health program office for service, who are at risk for involvement with the family court system. |
