Project Description:
Project provides for installation of a parallel wastewater force main under the Intracoastal Waterway connecting the barrier island wastewater collection system to the wastewater treatment facilities on the mainland. There are presently two force mains that transport wastewater from the barrier island to the mainland. Although the existing force main lines have been inspected and found to be in acceptable condition any damage to either line could result in substantial release of raw wastewater into the Intracoastal Waterway and disruption of wastewater services on the barrier island which would resulting in further wastewater spills in the area. The parallel force main will provide system redundancy and allow wastewater flow to be rerouted in case of damage to either of the existing lines. Efficient and effective wastewater treatment collection systems reduce the potential for hazardous pollution of surface and ground water.
