Project Description: |
The Miami Boys Academy is a nonprofit corporation registered with the State of Florida and Tax exempt from federal income tax under section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code with public charity status 170 (b) (1) (A) (VI).
The Miami Boys Academys mission is to help children maintain a healthy and physically active lifestyle through the game of Baseball. The organization recruits children within Miamis inner city neighborhoods and organize them into age appropriate teams. The children train, practice and play the game of baseball year round at Jose Marti Park, located in downtown Miami and adjacent to an economically depressed area.
The Academy provides uniforms, equipment, tournament fees and insurance for all those who participate.
Additionally, while the organization is primarily sports oriented, the Board of Directors, Coaches, staff and volunteers pay special attention to the childrens educational needs and demand acceptable grades before children are allowed to participate. They work in conjunction with parents and, in some cases, teachers for the purpose of achieving good academic results.
The organizations philosophy is that education and hard work are the principal elements in the positive development of a child. A number of the organizations past participants have received scholarships to colleges and universities thanks to the combination of academics and sports.
