Miami Womans Club

Requester: Noreen Timoney Organization: Miami Womans Club

Project Title: Miami Womans Club Date Submitted 1/4/2008 11:38:44 AM

Sponsors: Bullard

Statewide Interest:
The project assists in the protection and rehabilitation of one of the states architecturally and historically significant structures (1926). Organized in 1900, the Miami Womans Club became one of the citys most important cultural, civic and social organizations and was responsible for establishing Miamis public library system. The 31,000 square foot Mediterranean Revival style building overlooks Biscayne Bay and is one of the last architectural vestiges from Miamis first days as a city to be found in a neighborhood of modern high-rise building. The restoration will be done using sustainable methods and is a recycling project, i.e., reusing an existing historic building.
