Project Description:
) In 2006 alone, 268 child abuse victims and their supportive family members benefited from support and advocacy services and 346 forensic medical examinations and 170 forensic interviews occurred at the Center. By ensuring a multidisciplinary investigative approach is applied, more accurate statements and stronger evidence can result in more children being safe from child abuse predators. Counseling, advocacy and support are critical to the emotional recovery of child abuse victims. The Center assists families in navigating often confusing systems of criminal justice and child welfare and ensures the family has access to services they need to fully recover, emotionally and physically. The CAC currently operates out of a leased office suite which does not provide adequate space and plans are underway to construct a state-of-the-art Center which can accommodate co-location of all investigative agencies. The Center will be an ideal setting to provide all services a family may need during and after a child abuse disclosure with a focus on victim sensitivity considering the mental and physical abuses that may have occurred.
